X-Press - 1982
First Impressions
A chance meeting with Dave Leaper from Supermusic (Dave had produced the Nerve Senta record) put me in touch with X-Press, an ex-punk band who had migrated to New Wave.
X-Press had found some success by releasing a single 45 record 'Junked up Judy' and supporting punk and new wave bands around Yorkshire.
The single 'Junked up Judy' has become a punk classic and is often found on punk CD collections in the UK and USA. More information is available at the official X-Press web site which is dedicated to the band prior to my involvement.
One Sunday afternoon in 1982, I went down to their rehearsal space to watch them go through their set and was instantly impressed with their songs and melodies.

The Band
The guys in the band John, Fid, Nitty and Wol were great guys and they had some fantastic songs, the musicianship wasn’t as good as Nerve Senta but X-press was a good working unit.

X-Press becomes Hearts in Rhythm- 1983
Early in 1983 the band decided to change it's name to Hearts in Rhythm. The work continued with regular gigs, recording sessions at various recording studios around North Yorkshire and even two videos. One staged in our rehearsal space and another live concert video which sadly had very poor lighting and very distorted sound.
By the summer of 1983, I felt that things were going really well, we hadn't any record company interest yet but time would tell. The band has always taken July and August off as holiday time but they announced that they wouldn't be reforming after the summer. I was very disappointed and upset that I had been excluded from the decision but the decision had been made. They did re-form the following year but by then I'd moved on to play with Dance Reaction.
